The Secret Society of Women is a new online community produced “by women, for women”. Lisa Ling, journalist and co-host on “The View” decided to start the Secret Society of Women. The site appears to have true staying power. It has only been around for a few months, but is already growing. Don't worry, this isn't another thing that you would need to take out a pay day loans just to sign up for.
The reason for starting the Secret Society of Women
Lisa Ling co-founded the Secret Society of Women site. Ling had been in a hard time of her life. A miscarriage had hurt her. She decided that women needed “a confidential, anonymous community to share experiences and soak up advice and words of wisdom from other women.” Early Nov. was when the website got put up. On "The View" on December 7, Ling announced it.
Sharing experiences in one community
The Secret Society of Women is a site built to encourage the sharing of secrets and building of community. There are other topics such as "Daily Wish," "Wisdom" and "Favorite Things" that you are able to go to and post instead of just sharing secrets. The site highlights that all sharing can be done anonymously, though one has to register with an e-mail address and username to post anything on the site.
Other secrets could be shared at places besides Secret Society of Women
The Secret Society of Women is just the latest incarnation of secret-sharing online. There is a large community of people following a blog called PostSecret. Numerous just post postcards that have secret on them. The internet gives great anonymity. That means that the majority are willing to share secrets from personal lives on it. There is just a general community involved with the Secret Society of Women. It will most likely be extremely popular though if what is happening now with its following continues.
